The Bass Team/Club is all about fishing and learning to show good sportsmanship. We teach it, practice it and expect it from every member of our club. Learning good sportsmanship in the fishing world starts with you here in the Bass club at Oak Hill. We learn how to demonstrate respect for others on and off the water. We always congratulate those who do well. We encourage those who had a rough day fishing. We shake hands with our competition before the tournament, wish everyone good luck and shake hands after the tournament no matter the outcome. We share camaraderie with and encourage our fellow club members. Most of all, we stay for the weigh-ins to support those who did well because it will mean a lot to them, and it'll mean a lot to you when it's your turn.
Club tournaments are a lot of fun. You get to spend the day doing what you love, bass fishing, with the people in your life you care about the most. It is a great time to get to know each other, to enjoy some friendly competition, and to learn some on-the-water skills through the help of your fellow teammates and boat captains. We also have multi-school tournaments throughout the school year so you can get to know fellow fishermen and make new friends with students from other schools in our area.
W have one multi-school tournament that our school sponsors once a year in October. We usually have 2 to 3 bass tournaments for Oak Hill Club Members only. We participate in the LHSAA State High School Regional Tournaments and the State Championship, if we have a team that qualifies. We also have at least one team from our club that participates in the other tournaments sponsored by local schools in our area throughout the school year.
Students must be a member of the LHSAA Bass Federation, have a current team jersey, life jacket, at least one member of the team must have a boat (with up to date insurance) and a boat captain that is 21 or older.
We start scouting for potential club members around August 1st each year. Any student in grades 7-12 that pays his/her dues may be a member of the Bass Club. We meet with our club regularly once a month on school club days.
